Femme Cup: One Size One Love

I want to talk about a menstrual cup I got a few months ago, the Femmecup ,I received it in a fun pink package all the way from London!

First thing I noticed it was that the package itself had written on it "Environmentally Friendly Bags-this product is guaranteed 100% biodegradable" so I was very pleasantly surprised, it's nice to see a company so committed to their ethic to choose to support their cause under any single aspect of their business.

Inside the package I found a few paper stickers to use to spam toilets, which I love to do! (always ask for permission before though!) there was a window cling sticker, a pen, a sample cup to show people about if you want to spread the word about menstrual cup.
This cup has a little hole in it so it cannot be used as an actual cup during your period and has a little balls chain that keeps it attached to its pouch so that you can easily carry it around ready to preach for menstrual salvation! LOL! I'm obviously joking but I confess to enjoy talking to other women about my experience with cups, and as a matter of fact I've been able to convert quite a few friends and even random ladies (yes, I can be very persuasive ;) ) whom now use and love their cup.
In the package I also found an adorable extra pouch which I'm totally in love with, it's an handmade cotton storage bag in the shape of knickers!

                                          How cute is it? ^_^

The Femmecup itself came in a biodegradable plastic bag together with an instruction pamphlet that offers you the choice of several languages: English; french; German; Spanish; Swedish; Russian and Romanian, it explain how to use your cup at home and out, how to clean and take care of it and why cups are better for the body, the environment and helps you save money.
The choice of sending the cup in a bag has the scope of saving shipping space therefore money but I reckon you can ask to receive it in the cardboard box if you wanted to, also since is possible to buy Femmecup on the Highstreet at Superdrug you can get it there sold in its little box.

The cup itself is contained in its 100% cotton made from a Fair and Ethical Trade Company (again a sign of the commitment of Femmecup to ethical causes)

Femmecup is available in one size, is 50mm long and 45mm wide (at its widest point)
it holds 30ml to the max but keep in mind that when the blood reach the holes the cup start to loose suction so I'd say that Femmecup hold about 15ml which is a lot considering that the blood lost during an entire monthly cycle may vary between 10 to 80 ml, yes that's all!
Femmecup like many other menstrual cup may last around 5 years (even more if taken care properly)

As you can from the pic above and below Femmecup is a small cup, one of the smallest and shortest on the market and this make it perfect as a first cup and for women with low cervix.

Femmecup is 100% medical grade silicone and is approved by the Vegan Society, has also won several awards as green and eco-friendly product, you can find everything about it on the website.

The silicone is extremely clear and shiny, which I love, in my experience Femmecup is possibly the clearest cup on the market.
The silicone is also very smooth and has a rubbery feeling, and this feature makes it very easy to keep the cup clean.
There are four holes just under the ridge and they are slightly slanted but they are big enough to be very easy to keep clean without the help of any particular object.

The body of the cup is extremely soft and easy to fold, on the contrary the rim and the ridge are thick and springy, they create easily a very strong seal and once inserted the cup it won't move, so no panic as it won't get to far to reach!

One more very unique feature is the stem which is short, very flexible and shows a sort of spiral that extends up to the base of the cup itself; being extremely flexible is therefore very comfy however if you need to you can easily trim it to any lenght to avoid it sticking out of your body.

The following pics show a couple of my favourite ways of folding the cup, the first is the C fold and the second is the Punch-down fold, both seen from above and from a side.

Personally I had no problem using Femmecup, it was VERY easy to insert it and pop it open, as I said the rim is very springy so the cup basically pop open on is own without using any special move lol :) , just as easy was remove it, quick and clean. I do have a fairly high cervix so short cups are not usually ideal for me but I found that Femmecup doesn't go up inside my body, because of the strong seal it stay put and don't allow any leaking.

Thumbs up for Femmecup!
